Suggestions for a Wedding

Azalea Strings was first created in 1998 by members of the Graduate String Quartet at the University of Florida. Comprised of all professional musicians, Azalea Strings performs regularly together for special events. We have been providing professional chamber music for weddings and private functions for over 15 years. Our home service area is Naples, Florida, but we are willing to travel throughout the state.

We are all professional musicians, and we perform regularly with symphonies and ensembles in the region. We are versatile in that we can arrange a group to best suit your needs. We are hired most often as a String Trio, which consists of two violins and a cello. Our groups range from a solo instrumentalist, which is most appropriate for very small, intimate gatherings, to a string quartet, which works the best at large, outdoor parties.

Our roster

Ariel Eliot, violin & viola

Galen Kaup, violin

Dale Sandvold, violin

Scott Crowley, cello
Renee Bartholow, cello

Ariadna Barbe-Villa, bass
Richard Fleisher, harp
Peter Fancovic, piano

Ensembles

String Trio (two violins and a cello)
This group is appropriate for all sized gatherings, repertoire is extensive, sound is full and strong.

String Duo (two violins or violin & cello)
This group works well at smaller, more intimate settings. Because the sound is not as full as the trio, it is not recommended for large, outdoor spaces.

String Quartet (two violins, viola & cello)
This group is best for large, open settings and parties that last longer than three hours. Sound-wise, the quartet is not significantly different from the trio.

Tango S.V.P. is an exciting and new tango group that has recently been called to acclaim by many local residents of Naples. Some of its members have been playing and performing tango music for over twenty years. Members Ariel Eliot and Ariadna Barbe-Villa both decided to form this group after Ariadna's recent move from the east coast to her new hometown of Naples, FL. Ariadna traveled to Argentina several years ago to meet and collaborate with the original cellist for Astor Piazzola, Jose Bragato. He is now 100 years old. During their collaboration, Jose gave Ariadna a lot of his original music. In addition, he helped her to cultivate the stylings and nuances of many original Piazzolla compositions as only the legendary composer would have wanted. Thus, a rebirth of tango tradition directly emerged from Piazzola's musical lineage.

Other members of the group include Peter Fancovic, Galen Kaup and Scott Crowley. Peter Fancovic is a virtuoso organist and piano player. Although his roots are in Classical music, he is also very well trained in the art of jazz improvisation. Galen Kaup grew up in Potsdam, NY and had a very early performance career as a fiddler, along with his Classical studies. He also composes polyphonic arrangements for an interesting and modern Japanese instrument called the Otamatone. Scott Crowley has had a diverse career as a soloist for many different types of ensembles within Classical music, off-broadway musicals, and even Pop music. He plays on a very stylish Lewis & Clark carbon fiber cello.

After Piazzolla moved to Paris and studied with Nadia Boulanger, a series of his Paris-published tangos were recorded in 1955 with the Opera of Paris Orchestra and jazz pianist Martial Solal. Tango S.V.P. is among these compositions. Tango S.V.P. captures the playfulness, sensuality and mystery of tango music from the early part of the 20th century. Likewise, both Tango S.V.P.'s name and music are affectionately inspired by the genius of Piazzolla.
